Boys’ Basketball Team Continues Hard Work
By Ashley Warnke
After the first big snow storm, the first home game of the season was postponed to Saturday, December 12. The rescheduled game against Madison Edgewood was supposed to be one of Dominican’s toughest games, but the Dominican boys’ varsity team surprised everyone on Tuesday night when they easily defeated Edgewood, 53 to 43.
A senior on the team, Charlie Sparrow, admits that they were very confident when they walked onto the court Tuesday after their big win against St. Catherine’s that previous Saturday. With this confidence the Knights were able to play to their full potential against Edgewood. Dominican built a strong lead right away and was able to keep it through the whole game.
With the help of his teammates Mikael Luter, Jamall Taylor, Fred Gladney, Tommy Popalisky, Iman Johnson, and Breon Jordan, they all managed to score for a total of 53 points. Junior, Iman Johnson, lead the team with 23 points of his own. One of Johnson’s baskets was a dunk that got students on their feet cheering for him. With the team working well together they made it an interesting game for the fans. Daven Hines commented that “the game was very lively, fast paced, and really fun.”
With a record of 5-0, students and players are getting anxious for the rest of the season. Sarah Moede said she has “high expectations for the season and I hope they are successful so we can go to state.”
Dominican boys’ next basketball game is an away game against Randolph High School on December 22nd.
