Senior leaders honored

By Christina Hill

Seniors Ashley Stern and Jessie Bazan were recognized along with teammates Lauren Merkel, Natalie Miller and Nicole Pierringer on Senior Night.

On Monday, March 1st, the girls basketball team competed in heir final home game of the season. It is tradition to hold this particular event in honor of the senior players. Senior Ashley Stern explained, “basically it is to honor and thank the seniors that have been in the program and have worked hard for the past four years.”

Originally the game was scheduled for the previous Saturday, but a snow storm forced Prairie school, their competitor, to cancel the game. Even with the set back Stern was pumped stating, “I hope we win. If we win tonight and on Friday, we are conference champs. We need to keep winning.”

Before the game the seniors of the team were individually announced and shook hands with the Athletic Director, Coach Wollersheim, Dean of Students, Mr. Geittmann, Dean of Academics, Mr. Foy, and team coach Schramka. This was a very emotional experience for the seniors, teammates, parents, and classmates.

After a victorious game with the winning score of 63-38, cake and juice was served as everyone celebrated. The senior girls will miss their tight bond and even though it is “a lot of pressure,” stated senior Jessie Bazan, “it has its rewards. I have really enjoyed my four years on the team.”

Lauren Merkel stated on the success of her team saying, “we’re doing great this year and we all get along extremely well. I’m very sad to leave next year, but excited to be [attending] Marquette because I can still see the girls play after I graduate. This has been an amazing season that I would never forget.”

The next scheduled game will be held on Friday, March 5th versus Hope School at 7:00 pm. Come and support.
