Next Friday, February 5th 2009, Dominican will host their annual talent show. With 25 acts signed up to try out, a total of about 12 will be chosen. The new idea of having a video contest open for all students was brought to the forefront; however it will not be put into action this year.

The idea of a video entry was created to take place of the usual senior video, but ended up with no video submissions.  “The video contest was supposed to be a chance for students to imitate how they think their teachers acted in high school. It’s unfortunate that nobody took the opportunity to poke a little fun at the faculty, but we are prepared with a backup plan that will be entertaining,” explained senior student council member Jessie Bazan. The “backup plan” Bazan is speaking of, is having an alternative hosting format. This may consist of having a couple of senior boys host the show. Some of the boys in mind are Kevin Dix, Freddy Gladney, and Mikael Luter. “I am not 100% sure yet that I will be hosting, but if I do I will probably dress up like the grandma again from the Knight Walk fundraiser,” stated Gladney.

This year student council is hoping for more variety within the acts. “Instead of the traditional singing and dancing which we always enjoy, we are excited for other unique acts,” explained Bazan. One example is senior Tony Gerlach is planning to recite Pi.

Tryouts occurred all this week and students auditioned in front of Mr. Weiler, Mr. Geittmann, and student council members. “The show is going to be great! I heard from a few people that auditions today went really, really well. It is going to be hard to narrow the acts down since so many people signed up, but I guess that’s a good problem to have! It should be exciting to see what kind of talent DHS students have,” expressed Bazan.

Students are very excited to show off their talents, and to see what their peers can do! Come out to Dominican next Friday, in the afternoon, the 5th of February, to experience exciting and inspiring performances!
